A rare treat for Sondheim fans has made its way off-Broadway: the Keen Company’s revival of Marry Me a Little. The rarely-produced musical comprised entirely of songs from other Stephen Sondheim shows officially opens October 2 at the Clurman Theatre in Theatre Row.
Starring Lauren Molina (Sweeney Todd) and Jason Tam (Lysistrata Jones), Marry Me a Little focuses on the lives of two lonely New Yorkers who find themselves left to their own devices on a Saturday night. As they drink, write and dream of romance, they never quite realize that their perfect match is just one floor away.
Jonathan Silverstein directs this off-Broadway production, which features a handful of Sondheim songs cut from other musicals. This production features a number of melodies that will be heard for the first time, including “Rainbows” (originally written for the unproduced Into the Woods film) and “Yoo-Hoo!” (cut from Sunday in the Park with George).
Molina appeared on Broadway in Rock of Ages and Sweeney Todd. Her additional theater credits include Nobody Loves You, Next Thing You Know, Ernest In Love, and Ten Cents a Dance. Tam was most recently seen on Broadway in the cheerleading comedy Lysistrata Jones, as well as A Chorus Line and Les Miserables. He has also appeared in productions of Nobody Loves You, Allegiance, The Distant Bells and The Yellow Wood.
